a)                     Report on NCITS/L8 Task Group for Technical Development meetings (D. Gillman)

Discussion of 20944 in TG.  Suggestion to read the parts in the following order: Part 1 (Framework), Subclause 7.1; Part 41 (C binding), Part 40 (general API binding); Part 3 (Conformance).

 

Discussion of 11179-3 revision in TG.

 

Discussion of 19773 metadata modules in TG.

 

Discussion of 24707 common logic in prior TG.

 

Limited discussion of 19763 metamodel framework in TG.

 

b)                     Report on NCITS/L8 matters (D. Gillman)

Motion: Farance moved, Bargmeyer seconded: Disband the TG and merge its activities with L8 and combine the agendas, as appropriate.

Report by Bargmeyer: Next meeting in Berlin 2004-04-15 / 2004-04-22, Open Forum is 2004-04-11 / 2004-04-14.

 

Thanks to Dan Gillman for hosting the 2004-11 SC32/WG2 meeting at BLS.

 

Concern about Chinese delegates having their visa denied.

Progress made on several projects, including docs distributed.

d)                     Report on JTC1/SC32 matters (B. Bargmeyer)

Appreciation for Bargmeyer's continuation as SC32 Chair.

e)                     Report on JTC1/SC32/WG1 matters (P. Levine)

Gillman reported: Meeting in Tallinn, Estonia 2004-10-25 / 2004-10-29.  Attendance by US.  Uncertain of status on 15944-2 as to whether or not the project will be canceled.

 

Schoka reported: Recent UNECE CEFACT meeting and discussion at that meeting about intellectual property, process, procedure.

f)                      Report on JTC1 matters (B. Bargmeyer)

Bargmeyer reported: Approved human sex standard for free availability.  Terminology (2382) will be distributed to SCs.  Uninterested in working on a document that will be for sale.

 

3)         Liaison reports

a)                     TC 204 (A. Schoka)

Schoka reported: Interested in establishing a data registry on 14817 (Intelligent Transport Systems -- Requirement for data dictionaries and data registries).

b)                     OMG (B. Bargmeyer)

Bargmeyer: Liaison meeting in conjunction with Berlin.

Gillman: L8 just approved MOF and XMI fast track ballots.

c)                     W3C (B. Bargmeyer)

Bargmeyer: Contact with Semantic Web Best Practices and Deployment.

d)                     TC 211 and L1 (D. Gillman)

Gillman: TC211 has said they are interested in developing a registry but no reports of progress.

e)                     TC 37 (D. Mann)

Bargmeyer: TC37 asked SC32/WG2 to review certain terminology.  No report on progress.

f)                      SC 36 and V36 (F. Farance)

Farance reported: SC36 has a new Chair, Mr. Bruce Peoples (US).  SC36 has used 11179 in a variety of ways.  The SC36 can make use of the 11179, 20943, 20944, and 19773 standards.

V36 will be submitting a report on accessibility and its integration with ISO and JTC1 work.  V36 will send a copy to L8.

g)                     TC 154 (A. Schoka)

Schoka: Just complete fast track balloting document of 15000-5 Core Components technical specification (part of the EBXML framework).  Concern expressed about with version of 11179 is reference (edition 1 or 2?).  Will send request for comments.

Farance: Coordination with SC32 on 19773-08 postal data?  Schoka suggested sending comments to TC154 Chair.

h)                     ITS (A. Schoka)

Schoka: Gave an over of membership.  Concern about intellectual property issues and the adoption of the standard.

i)                      ECCMA (B. Bargmeyer)

Bargmeyer: ECCMA is involved in TC184 and STEP.  WG2 will be establishing a liaison to coordinate on data element description.

 

4)         Status of Projects

a)                     Status of ISO/IEC 11179 – revision

All parts are open for revision.

i)                      Part 1 – Framework (D. Gillman)

No changes yet, waiting for revisions.

ii)                     Part 2 – Classification (J. Carpenter)

No new draft yet for version 3 of part 2.  See "http://xmdr.org" for new work in this area.

iii)                    Part 3 – Registry Metamodel and Basic Attributes (D. Mann)

L8 TG discussed technical issues and changes.  Some progress being made.

iv)                    Part 4 – Definitions (B. Bargmeyer)

Nothing new to report on version 3.

v)                     Part 5 – Naming and Identification (B. Parker)

Burt did changes as requested and sent to SC32 Secretariat (version 2).

vi)                    Part 6 – Registration (D. Mann)

FDIS (version 2) ballot completed.

b)                     Status of ISO/IEC TR 20943

i)                      Part 1 – Data Elements (D. Gillman)

No new status.

ii)                     Part 2 – XML (L. Fitzwater)

XML-related issues are folded 11179-3 version 3.  20944-2 was deferred until 11179-3 edition 3 is complete.

iii)                    Part 3 – Value Domains (D. Gillman)

Needs some minor correction.  Need to file a defect report.

iv)                    Part 4 – Framework (L. Fitzwater)

No new status, no progress.

c)                     Status of ISO/IEC 11404 – General Purpose Datatypes (F. Farance)

Need to form a committee to review the ballot resolution and provide US comments.

 

Motion: Farance moved, Bargmeyer seconded: Estblish a committee to provide US recommendations to SC22/WG11 for the 11404 FCD ballot resolution.

 

Vote: Unanimous consent

Gillman nominates Frank Farance to lead the committee.  Frank accepted..

d)                     Status of ISO/IEC 20944 – Interoperability and Bindings (F. Farance)

TG discussed the parts and their rationale (partition in to Codings/APIs/Protocols; based upon theoretical aspects of partitioning into data transfer, control transfer, and data/control transfer).  TG discussed potential issues and resolution -- to be discussed further.  Current active parts 01, 02, 03, 20, 21, 40, 41, 43, 44, 47, 80, 81, 82.

e)                     ISO/IEC 24706 - Standards Metadata (D. Gillman)

Gillman said a draft would be available soon.

f)                      ISO/IEC 24707 - Common Logic (H. Delugach)

Expect draft by 2005-04.

g)                     ISO/IEC 15944 – Business Semantics (P. Levine)

Part 1: Defects identified in ISO/IEC 15944-1 to be submitted later as a second to be submitted later as a second technical corrigendum, with the technical corrigendum, with the objective of objective of following on with following on with republication of Part 1.

 

Part 2: Editor instructed to update according to WG1/N269R in preparation for according to WG1/N269R in preparation for 2004-12-15 FCD ballot.  Recognizing Part 2 was Recognizing Part 2 was "at risk" under 5-year under 5-year rule, with 2004-10-20 for completion timeout, it was agreed to proceed with the update activity, reinstating Part 2 if cancelled.

 

Part 3: Editors instructed to update according to WG1/N270R in preparation for 2005-01-31 "sneak peak, sneak peak," inviting inviting comments and contributions by 2005-03-15.

 

Part 4: Editor instructed to update Editor instructed to update according to WG1/N271R in according to WG1/N271R in preparation for 2004-12-15 2nd CD ballot.

Part 5: Editors instructed to update according to WG1/N272R in according to WG 1/N272R in preparation for 2004-12-15 2nd CD ballot.

h)                     ISO/IEC 19763 – Metamodel Framework (L. Fitzwater)

Progress at WG2 meeting.  Needs active US participation.

i)                      MOF and XMI (D. Mann)

Approved DIS fast track ballots.

j)                      ISO/IEC 5218 – Sex Codes (D. Gillman)

Approved for public availability at JTC1 Plenary.

k)                     ISO/IEC 19773 – Metadata Modules (F. Farance)

Review in TG and at WG2.  Projects are alive, 13 parts.  Possible reorganization.  L8 should review for applicability, especially for 11179-3 edition 3 normatively referencing parts of 19773.

l)                      ISO/IEC 14957 – Representation of Data Element Values (F. Farance)

 No progress since last meeting.  Expect draft around 2005-01 timeframe.

Motion: Farance moved, Newton seconded: Establish group to collect L8 comments on SC22/N3831 (JTC1/N7674) and SC22/N3828 (JTC1/N7673) provide comments to the US and to the INCITS EB.
