Some presentations at the meeting discussed concepts developed by X3L8, especially the content and possible applications for ISO 11179. 2.Alan Goldfine reported on the status of the mail reflectors. The following are set up or will be: X3L8email This is open only to the Principal, Alternate and Observer members of X3L8. It is used only for messages needing limited distribution, such as electronic ballots. (To be set up by Alan Goldfine.) X3L8news Anyone from the public may request to join this reflector. All people on the X3L8email list are included on this reflector. (This is already set up and operational. Send email to X3L8news@speckle.ncsl.nist.gov) SC14email This is open only to the SC14 Secretariat and any person who is a member of any SC14 Member Body. All people on the X3L8email receive this email. (To be set up by Alan Goldfine). SC14news Anyone from the public may request to be on this reflector. All people on the X3L8news reflector are automatically included. The SC14/WG4news email reflector will be discontinued after the other SC14 reflectors are operational. This is currently operational. Send mail to SC14/WG4news@speckle.ncsl.nist.gov 3.We discussed the X3L8 Home Page. Frank is keeping it current. He will help set up a Home Page for SC14. 4.Phong Ngo reported on the SC14 meeting in Paris held in Paris, October 2327, 1995. The resolutions are on the FTP server (see below, directory sc14docs, file name, sc14res. The report of the SC14/WG4 is on the FTP server, directory sc14docs, file name wg4rpt. 5.Moved by Judy Newton and seconded Bill Kenworthey:  Be it resolved that the members of X3L8 unanimously acknowledge and express their sincere gratitude for the immeasurable contribution Mrs. Karen H. Kirkbride has made to the furtherance of data standardization at both the national and international levels. The complex and demanding managerial responsibilities she has so long and conscientiously borne as Vicechair and International Representative for the Committee have been superbly and judiciously executed for the benefit and advancement of our program of work. Her countless technical achievements and innovations are visible in virtually every product produced by X3L8 for more than a decade.  Her selfless devotion to X3L8 through extensive commitments of time, governmental leave and personal finances are unexcelled in the annals of the Committee.  We one and all respectfully recognize and wholeheartedly appreciate the exceptional effort she has expended on behalf of X3L8. Approved by acclamation. 5.We met with Regina Girouard from the Data Interchange Standards Association (DISA). DISA is the: Secretariat for X12, EDI ` ` ` Secretariat for PanAmerican EDIFACT Board, (EDIFACT=EDI For Administration, Commerce and Trade) ©TAG Administrator for TC 154, EDIFACT, and ©TAG Administrator for SC 30, Open EDI. The US TAG to SC 30 is open to interested parties, not directly linked to any particular standards committee. It meets in conjunction with the X12 meetings. See web page at WWW.DISA.ORG. We discussed how the work of X3L8 might be useful in the EDI arena. 6.Dan Gillman led a discussion of Part 1, specifically comments sent in by Wil van den Bragt. We discussed each of the comments and made suggestions to Dan. 7.We reviewed the new work items. Two new drafts were produced based on comments made at the Paris SC14 meeting. The new drafts were sent out via email and some comments were received. We discussed the latest comments and new drafts will be produced. Phong Ngo will forward them for SC14 Ballot. 8.Doug Mann distributed a copy of the X3L8 Metamodel for the Management of Sharable Data translated into NIAM. The development of this translation raised a number of questions, which are listed in the document. Some solutions are proposed. This formulation of the metamodel was used to generate a number of English language statements which should be validated by the committee members. This work will be forwarded as comments during the public review period. 8.We tentatively scheduled meetings for X3L8 Note: the meeting date for the February X3L8 meeting is changed from February 79 to February 1416 at NIST. The meetings are: January 1012, 1996 SIG meeting at NIST ` ` ` February 1416, 1996 at NIST( SIG meetings on February 1415. X3L8 Plenary is February 16.) March 1415, 1996 SIG meeting at NIST April 1719, 1996 SIG meeting at NIST May 1617, 1996 SIG meeting at NIST May 2123, 1996 SC14/WG4 meeting in D.C. ` ` ` June 1214, 1996 at NIST (SIG meeting on June 1213 and X3L8 Plenary on June 14) All of the above meetings are to be held at NIST North, Building 820, Room 201. The address of this building is 820 West Diamond Avenue. Note: the building is located across the street from the main campus of NIST. Instead of turning onto Bureau Drive toward the main Gate of NIST, turn the opposite direction (North) onto Bureau Drive and take the second possible right turn to get to the NIST North building, The building has the name NIST on it in large letters. (From Interstate 270, driving North, take Exit 10, which loops under the freeway, and then turn RIGHT at the first stop lightthis is the intersection of West Diamond Avenue and Bureau drive.)
