1. Review of agenda
2. Henry Heffernan’s documents
Henry passed a number of documents to the SIG relating to Health informatics and semantics. He is also drafting a paper entitled "L8 NEEDS & OPPORTUNITIES". This paper was discussed and very well received by the SIG. Henry is soliciting comments and additional material for the document. Henry brought up the term "Cognitive Ergonomics" as a way to describe much of the work.
3. Doug Mann is assigned to work with T2 to arrange a joint meeting. In the afternoon he talked with Tony Sarris, T2 chairman. Tony would like to have a joint meeting in August that could be in mid-country. L8 SIG discussed possible dates and proposed the week of 11 August. Judy suggested Minneapolis. The suggestion was sent to Tony. T2 will be meeting in two weeks.
4. Discussion on the Date standard. March 17 will be the close date for comments. We have not received any comments.
5. It was noted that our committee is now "L8" and not "X3L8". Judy heard that "X3" was getting too many references with "XXX" on the web.
6. Bill Kenworthey noted that the Pan American EDIFACT Board members are: US, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Chile, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Guatemala. We should be able to draw these countries into SC14.
7. Discussed and revised the Time standard draft. The March 1997 OMG meeting will address the Time standard work item. Burt Parker presented his draft. There was a discussion to resequence the definitions and to build up time from seconds which are the basis for time units.
There was a proposal from D. Mann to allow "+0000" or "Z" to represent the zero offset.
8. Discussion of the Metadata Workshop. The submission date for papers has moved to March 14, 1997.
9. Worked on revisions to the Title and Scope of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC14. This document was completed.
10. Discussed the metamodel definitions. Doug Mann provided an extended table based on the 11179-1 table of definitions with the Data Value Domain and Metamodel definitions added. No conclusions were reached.
11. There was a brief discussion on recruiting for L8.
12. Discussed Paul Hawes activities. Since Paul may be leaving L8, we discussed his activities. Paul called in for this discussion. Paul’s activities include: International Representative, Liaison to X12, SC14 Convienor, and Metamodel architect and editor.
- Paul Hawes does not feel that SC14 WG4 does not need to meet until the next SC14 meeting in the fall of 1997.
- There have been no official comments on the revised date standard that Paul or Burt have received.
- Within X12, Paul feels the Liaison Task Group and the Strategic Implementation Task Group are very important. Each group has a mail list that convey import ant information.
- On the metamodel, Paul faxed revisions to the diagram and definitions. He has added contact with name, title, and address to be consistent with 11179-6
