API(differentflavorsarefavoredbydifferentcommunities),theappropriatestandardsforumforprogressingthework,etc.3.DoDSharedDataEnvironmentpresentationPhillipCykana,ofDOD/DISACenterforComputerSystemsEngineeringgaveapresentationaboutanddemonstrationoftheDefenseInformationInfrastructure,SharedDataEnvironment(SHADE).ThisisfortheCommonOperatingEnvironment(UNIXplatform).Phillipshowedushowdataelementsareorganizedanddistributedtopotentialuserssuchassystemdevelopers.TherewasconsiderablediscussionduringandafterPhillipspresentation.TheSHADEsystemworkstogetherwiththeDefenseDataDictionarySystem,whichhasabout12,000dataelements.Hederivescurrentdatavaluesfromvarioussources,includingtheX12.3database.SHADEusesdatatype,fieldlengthandvaluesetfromDDDS.RecordingandupdatinginformationaboutdataelementsalsoinvolvesworkwithDoDFunctionalDataAdministrators.Thereareabout1600dataelementsfromEDImessages(transactionsets)inrecordedintheDDS.CapturingdataelementsfromEDItransactionsetscanbecomplex.MuchoftheinformationiscontainedinImplementationGuidesandImplementationConventions.4.InstructionalManagementSystem(IMS)useofISO/IEC11179TomWasondescribedworkunderwaytodevelopanIMSforinstructionalinformationtobemadeavailableovertheWeb.TheInstructionalManagementSystemsProject,anEducomNLIIinitiative,isdevelopingaspecificationandsoftwareformanagingonlinelearningresources.Learningresourcescanincludepeople,educationalservicecompanies,content,tools,andactivities.#XGfXX&XGf#&XGfXXXGfEducomNationalLeaningInfrastructureInitiative(NLII)consistsofacoalitionof
