Status of Projects

a) Status of ISO/IEC 11179 – revision

i) Part 1 – Framework (D. Gillman)

Awaiting new version.

ii) Part 2 – Classification (J. Carpenter)

Ray posted a version of Part 2 on the WG2 website.

Discussed new features.

Discussed conformance.

Frank spoke of sparse and dense registries which confused everyone else.

Recommendation to work with TC37. Make terminological entry conformant to ISO 16642.

Recommendation: take admin attributes out of clause 5 table of attributes.

Discussed comments from WG2 meeting in Santa Fe.

Recommend: Editors should pursue the issue discussed today.

iii) Part 3 – Registry Metamodel and Basic Attributes (D. Mann)

As of today, it is now freely available on www.jtc1.org.

Request for changes: need to write up proposed changes. Ray has a form to do this.

Discussion of version 3 included: problem of double administration records, missing definitions, etc. Most will go into rev. 3.

Recommendation: Terminological entry needs work to be in harmony with TC 37 for next revision.

iv) Part 4 – Definitions (B. Bargmeyer)

FCD ballot closes in April 13.

Recommendation: Vote on FCD ballot by April 13.

Bruce: focused on DE def. Someone else is welcome to expand. FCD not place to introduce vast changes.

Franks comments: thrust of def’s entirely different, part 4 should have complete overhaul. Committee not enthused. Much confusion about what Frank wants.

v) Part 5 – Naming and Identification (J. Newton)

Begin issue of CD version. Need comments. Closes on June 8

Bruce’s comments: if we don’t raise issues of XML namespaces, go with what Judy has. Judy is writing a white paper for NIST and it will focus on how to specify DE id in xml along with DE. Sec 7.3 separators moved to syntax? Clause 8: no added value. Judy will work clause 8 into 7. Bruce will send his comments to be included in ballot.

Recommendation: Committee members should read and send comments to Teresa who will coordinate comments.

vi) Part 6 – Registration (L. Fitzwater)

CD version closes on June 8.

Strawman def.s for some statuses. Tim had suggestion for status. Frank has sent comments: needs another annex for explaining long binary unique id’s; need whole set of statuses for standards development.

Laura: comments on annexes
